One of the simplest ways to promote early literacy skills is to label your home. Print these labels and tape them to objects around your house. Seeing the labels will promote print awareness in many ways. Young children will begin to notice words that start with the same sounds. Some older children will begin to internalize the spelling by seeing it each day. Read about ways to make the labels into a game with your child.
Labels are included in the course, Growing Confident Readers.
By identifying our children's academic strengths, we can more easily understand how they absorb information. When we do this, we can find ways to incorporate their learning styles into all they do and learn. With this information, we can eliminate power struggles by replacing spelling words practice with playing an outdoor spelling game, or phonics practice into a strategically selected book at bedtime. Take this quiz to understand your child’s learning style and then utilize the literacy-based activities that resonate with their learning style!
